Ditch the Doubt. Kicking Imposter Syndrome to the Curb.

Ever feel like a total fraud, even though you're actually a rockstar at what you do? Yeah, that's imposter syndrome whispering its ugly little lies in your ear. Don't worry; it happens to the best of us. But here's the good news: you can totally squash those seeds of self-doubt and unleash the formidable woman you are. Let's do this!

Step 1: Recognize your badassery

her nation magazine woman
Right now, jot down three things that make you amazing at what you do!

Sure, you aren’t a master of everything, but you're here for a reason, right? What are your unique skills and experiences that make you awesome at what you do? Problem-solving ninja? Creativity powerhouse? Teamwork champion? Identify your strengths and write them down! Now, stick 'em on a post-it note so you can see them daily. Action Item: Right now, jot down three things that make you amazing at what you do!

Step 2: Learn from Every Epic Fail (and Win!)

Scared of messing up? Join the club! But guess what? Every experience, good or bad, teaches you something. Instead of seeing setbacks as proof you're a phony, view them as stepping-stones to greatness. Embrace the idea that you're constantly learning and growing. Action Item: Think of a recent challenge you faced. What did you learn from it? How can you use that knowledge to crush it next time?

Step 3: Ditch the Solo Act, Embrace the Squad

Feeling like you need to control everything can make imposter syndrome even worse. Here's the truth: nobody knows everything, and teamwork makes the dream work. Don't be afraid to ask for help and to seek out collaboration with others. Different people bring different strengths to the table, and together you can achieve amazing things. Action Item: Think of a project you're working on. Who could you collaborate with to make it even better?

Step 4: Challenges are Team Quests, Not Solo Battles

When faced with a tough task, don't see others as competition. View them as allies. Everyone has unique skills and perspectives. By working together, you can achieve way more than you could alone. Action Item: The next time you have a challenge, approach someone you respect and offer to brainstorm solutions together.

Step 5: Be Your Own Biggest Cheerleader.

I am telling you right now: stop being so hard on yourself! Imposter syndrome loves self-criticism. Quit feeding it. Instead, treat yourself with kindness. Celebrate your wins, big and small. Remember, mistakes happen, and they're part of the learning process. Be kind to yourself, just like you would be to a friend. Action Item: Quick - what is something you did that you’re extremely proud of or that you are just really, really good at? Repeat it to yourself until you believe it. It might feel silly at first, but you will get there, and so will your confidence.

Finally, remember, you are NOT alone! Imposter syndrome is a too-common foe among women, but with a little self-awareness, a growth mindset, and the support of others, you can totally conquer it. Now, get out there and shine your brilliant light on the world. It’s a big table. Pull up a seat.
